The Traditional Council

Divisional Chiefs

The divisional chiefs hold the traditional offices of the Suaman state. Each office below carries a distinct duty within the council.

Krontihene

Second-in-command to the paramount chief, presiding over the council and the state in the chief’s absence.

Akwamuhene

Head of the Akwamu division, one of the senior war divisions of the traditional state.

Kyidomhene

Commander of the rear guard (Kyidom) — the division that protects the state from behind.

Gyasihene

Head of the Gyaase household division, overseeing the palace staff and the property of the stool.

Nifa Hene

Commander of the right wing of the state in ceremonial order and council.

Benkumhene

Commander of the left wing of the state, counterpart to the Nifahene.

Abakomahene

Chief holding a stool on behalf of the royal family over a section of the paramountcy.

Adontehene

Commander of the Adonten — the main body and vanguard of the traditional state.

Adum Hene

Custodial office historically charged with state discipline and the enforcement of justice.

Twafo Hene

Chief of the advance guard — the division that goes ahead of the state.

Wirempemhene / Karlo

Head of the Wirempe (bodyguard) division that protects the stool, seated at Karlo.

Sumankwahene

Custodian of the state’s sacred objects and talismans (suman) — the spiritual protector of the stool.
